Rift Redcon 2

RIFT - Redcon 2

REDCON-2 is part art of an ACTIVE MOD Site; RAF Abingdon dates back to WWII.
The area they are using is the open area of the land at the Northern part of the Airfield - approx 70 ACRES.
It's a large Site with several original buildings, undulating terrain, concrete roads and authentic man made defenses.
They have usable Military Vehicles, a Tank Graveyard & Lynx Helicopter for you to enjoy!

The Day!

Sunday 1st May, 2022, I visited Rift Redcon 2 for their second day of their Shift your Rift Event. I hadn’t been here before so I was excited to see what the day had to bring.

On arrival there was marshals assisting cars on where to park and book in. This was really well run as there was another non-airsoft event on using the same entrance of the airfield so it avoided all confusion. After parking up, I walked to where the campers had set up to find my friends for the day. They had set up quite far away from the entrance of the safe zone but the site had thought about this and had a military vehicle being used as a taxi from one end to the other which was handy. Even though we were based so far away from the main safe zone, marshals still took the time to walk down and make us aware of chrono being open and games starting.

There was 300-400 players there which to my surprise, the head marshal giving the safety brief had everyone’s attention. It was a very in depth briefing which made me feel very comfortable knowing what rules the sites have. With this being an event, they also took time to introduce each business that was there and what deals/comps they were running throughout the day.

There was one entrance to the game zone which I saw was manned at all times to ensure players had their eye pro on when entering and magazines were removed on leaving. This was a good idea with lots of players coming and going from the game throughout the day.

Obviously being new to the site, I wasn’t very aware of where I was going, where objectives were etc, but there were numerous times I could access a map which was helpful. I found the whole site to be very clean and well looked after. The site owners hadn’t added a huge amount of manmade builds but with the mixed terrain of the site, it wasn’t needed. There were many different areas which help vary the gameplay.

Unfortunately, with it being an event, they ran two games throughout the day, one in the morning, second after lunch and they had the same objectives but switched sides for the teams. For me personally, I prefer a mixture but I understand why they kept it simple with there being so many players and it looked like a lot of players really enjoyed the objectives given. A big contribution to this I feel was the jeeps and tanks moving around the site.

Marshals were really helpful throughout the games and were giving advice to groups on how to achieve certain areas and keeping a close eye on hit taking where they could. One marshal placed himself at an enemy respawn (these could be captured by either team) and asked players to hit him to make sure bbs were reaching that far and see how frequently to judge if their respawn had to become neutral.

When I had the chance to wonder around the safe zone, there was a shop as well as a café serving hot and cold food/drinks. I also had a look around the boot sales and caught a glimpse of a RIF. I decided to purchase a second hand TM VSR10 to use as a project gun.

Overall, I feel the site and day was run really well with there being so many players with a range of experiences. I look forward to visiting this site again.
