The Day!

Monday 2nd May, it was Bank Holiday so I took advantage of that and booked in to visit Driverwood Airsoft. Obviously with it being a bank holiday, numbers were lower than usual as I was informed the day before they had over 200 players!

On arrival, I was able to place my kit down on one of their many benches available (some under shelter, some not) before booking in. I got given a wristbands and was able to order a meal deal for lunch which for £5 consisted of a burger, chocolate bar and a drink.

Through a microphone, we were told how long left we had to chrono our RIFs and on the way, I was told that I needed a barrel sock which I could hire for the day with a refundable £5 deposit. This was the first time I had encountered this rule. After a quick safety brief which I felt missed out some information such as whether ricochets count, we were then taken to the game area.

Upon entering the game zone, we were all checked for a chrono tag and wristband which I thought was very thorough. There were numerous arenas all separated with netting which avoided confusion and allowed clear boundaries between us and other players on the day doing paintball or nerf. They had lots of props in the games such as large missiles, buses, helicopters etc which added to the experience and it had a lot of manmade barriers to hide from those bbs.

Unfortunately, I came across a fair few cheaters on this day and marshals were made aware of this and didn’t see any action taken. This was surprising as they organised games on a smaller area due to the low numbers so it wasn’t far to walk back to respawn.

When looking around the safe zone, they had many facilities such as a shop, indoor toilets, café and a staging area for when addressing players. They had a boot sale going on in the safe zone also with it being bank holiday and I was surprised to see that RIFs being sold didn’t have barrel socks on but players had to. I felt this sent mixed signals.

Overall, the site had great facilities but a few rules needed to be more enforced to avoid confusion.
